Integration council election 2025

The integration council elections are elections in which people with an international family history can elect their representative body - the integration council - in many municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The city of Beckum is no exception. The integration councils are committed to equal opportunities, participation and the political co-determination of migrants.

  • When is the election?

    Parallel to the local elections, the integration councils will be re-elected on 14 September 2025. If you wish to vote by post, you must apply for and send in your postal vote in good time. Germans, foreign residents and stateless persons who are entitled to vote will automatically receive the election documents.

  • Who can vote?

    Anyone who

    • is not a German within the meaning of Article 116 (1) of the Basic Law,
    • has a foreign nationality or(if applicable in addition to German nationality),
    • has obtained German citizenship through naturalisation or
    • acquired German citizenship as a child of foreign parents in accordance with Section 4 (3) of the Citizenship Act in the corrected version published in the Federal Law Gazette Part III, Section 102-1, last amended by Article 1 of the Act of 28 August 2013 (Federal Law Gazette I p. 3458).

    In addition, the person must be 16 years old on election day, have been legally resident in the federal territory for at least one year and have had their main residence in the municipality since at least the sixteenth day before the election.

  • Who can be elected?

    German and non-German residents are eligible to stand as candidates:

    • Who are at least 18 years old
    • Have lived in Germany for at least one year and
    • Have been registered in Beckum for three months with their main residence.
    • They must have the right to stand for election in accordance with the Electoral Act (= be eligible for election)

  • How long are you elected for?

    The Integration Council is elected for five years, i.e. until 2030.

  • How do you vote?

    Election proposals can be submitted as a list or individual proposal and must be supported by a certain number of authorised voters. Furthermore, it is also possible to elect deputies.
